Triton Cockatoo returns to the wild

We at Araproject always like to hear about parrots finding there freedom and readapting to a live in the wild. Here is a small story brought to us by Stewart Metz of the Indonesian Parrot Project:
This is a wild Triton Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita triton) which was caught and given as an unwanted gift to the members of a tiny village on Gam Island in West Papua. They had learned about conservation and humane treatment from us, so they released the cockatoo who flies around merrily, often landing on a very tall post next to their hut as shown here. However he only returns to the people for food handouts and skritches.
Looks like a parrot well on its way back to a live in the wild! It shows what education can do for conservation.
