SEVERAL brightly-coloured parakeets have been spotted by bird watchers living close to Abington Park in Northampton.

With the rise of the Ring-necked parakeet (Psittacula krameri) in the Netherlands the concerns about this alien invader increases. Birders in general are not much interested in introduced species. Ring-necked parakeets, Mandarin ducks (Aix galericulata), Hooded merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) are persona non grata in the Dutch avifauna and they just do not count on your bird list. Read on…

Several parrot species live wild in the Netherlands. Some species more successful than others. The Ring-necked parakeet (Psittacula krameri) is the most successful wild parrot in the Netherlands. City Parrots to investigate the City Macaws of Medellin

Araproject has landed in Medellin, Colombia. Where forestry student Carlos Vásquez is presently conducting a pilot study into the Wild parrots of the city.

The local zoo, Zoológico Santa Fe de Medellín, released several macaws in the 80ties when a local law made it illegal for the inhabitants of Colombia to own native species. Overwhelmed by the amount of macaws that were placed in their care they decided to free-range these parrots. They could come and go as they pleased. Food was available for them in aviaries. Wild parrots invade Pomona Valley
